60 years Y "without a cent, but with hope and a prayer" this is what 60 years ago Founder Bob Steele, said at the inception of the YMCA in Aruba on april 27,1956. YMCA Of Aruba has been at work for 60 years, making significant contributions in enhancing the quality of life for thousands of children, teenagers and senior citizens by offering a wide variety of programs including, after school care, sports, recreational and leadership development programs that help the youth to grow personally and develop values for daily living.
Purpose of the organization
1. Develop self confidence and self respect and an appreciation of their own worth as individuals.
2. Grow as responsible members of their families and as citizens of their communities.
3. Appreciate that health of mind and body is a sacred gift, and that physical fitness and mental well being are conditions to be achieved and maintained.
4. Recognize the worth of all persons, and work for interracial and intergroup understanding.
5. Develop their capacities for leadership and use them responsibly in their own groups and community life.
