Sonrisa is an Association of Parents, Family and Friends of Mentally Impaired Persons, which was founded in 1990 by a group of parents of mentally impaired persons and has become the largest parents' association in Aruba.
Over the years, the facilities and the care for the mentally impaired persons have increased. However, the quality of life for mentally impaired persons in Aruba can still be much better.
Vision
That each mentally impaired person can participate in society in a dignified way, like any other citizen here in Aruba.
Mission
To represent the interests of mentally impaired persons and their families, so that they can integrate into society in every area.
Methodology of Sonrisa
Sonrisa is characterized by reinforcing one's capacity and reducing one's burden. Typical of the assistance provided is that our work is demand-oriented, flexible and efficient and focuses on respect, continuity, clarity and openness.
Structure of Sonrisa
Sonrisa is an association and not a foundation, which has the advantage that our active members and/or those who represent them also decide on our policy.
Sonrisa consists of: parents/caretakers, members and supporting partners.
