The YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association) is one of the oldest and largest Movements for youth in the world. Contributing to our community. Keeping the doors open to young people and their communities, regardless of religion, race, gender or culture.

If you are not aware of what the YMCA is about globally, or locally, please spend a few minutes here and you'll learn all there is to know.

The YMCA is a Christian Organization
At its center are Christian men and women who, regarding Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, desire to be his disciples and to associate their efforts for the extension of his Kingdom.
The Young Men's Christian Association and its program, in the local community and throughout the world, are means through which members fulfill part of their obligation to Christian service.
The YMCA cooperates with the churches in their ministry teaching. It is, however, aligned with no one Christian confession or denomination; its leaders and members are drawn from all.
It welcomes persons of other faiths, and those who find any faith difficult, into many of its activities.

The YMCA is a Voluntary Organization
The YMCA's goals are formed by the associations themselves. Its appeal for the members and Leaders and support is to those who wish to be associated in the work for these aims.
Although YMCA frequently undertake services by agreement with the governments and their leaders are alert to guard it.
The YMCA, in spite of the wide span of their membership is on the young side, its primary concern is with the "oncoming" generation. The greater part of its members and other participants are of early working age, out of school and college.
While it has developed education and health service programs on the adult level, these are typically found chiefly among younger men and women. Its leader are mature, and on the young side.

The YMCA is an International Organization
The basic units of the movement are the local associations. These associations are united through national and area groupings in a world movement which is given meaning and purpose by the World Alliance.
Through membership of the World Alliance and by a multitude of direct relationships, no local association or member movement lives unto itself.

The YMCA is a Membership Organization
The YMCA renders service to both members and non-members in order to meet the needs of particular situations, and it consists of those who consciously associate themselves to carry forward its purpose and who accept some degree of responsibility for their own small group in their association or the wider movement of which their association is part.
Professional secretaries have important responsibilities in the leadership of the YMCA and in policy formulation and implementation. Ultimate control however, rests not with these professional secretaries, but with the members and the elected directors and other officers the lay forces. The professional worker helps to build this member spirit and to make it more effective.

Purpose of the organization

1. Develop self confidence and self respect and an appreciation of their own worth as individuals.
2. Grow as responsible members of their families and as citizens of their communities.
3. Appreciate that health of mind and body is a sacred gift, and that physical fitness and mental well being are conditions to be achieved and maintained.
4. Recognize the worth of all persons, and work for interracial and intergroup understanding.
5. Develop their capacities for leadership and use them responsibly in their own groups and community life.
